[17 Feb 2009|03:26pm] |
My life has reached absurd levels of awesome.
I'm just saying.
I can't remember if I've already posted about this or not, but I got a job working as the lead character designer/sprite artist for an upcoming video game a few weeks ago. I won't talk about the specifics or my pay scale online for obvious reasons, but that's what emails and phone calls are for. When I need inspiration, I just look through Final Fantasy artbooks and think, "So. I have the same job Tetsuya Nomura did. Hmmmm." Also, I got a message today from the director of the Warlord CCG about the new set and I told him about how busy I was and he offered to give me A MONTH to paint one card and I COULD PICK what kind of card I would be doing. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Life.

So Caleb, Rachel and I ended up going to Las Vegas for the beginning of the Exhibit I'm in, though apparently it didn't actually begin until Tuesday. We were there from Sunday night 'till Tuesday morning, so we ended up having to sneak in like crafty cats who don't look any of the workers in the eyes. The exhibition room is attached to the Shibuya Restaurant inside the MGM Grand Casino, and we did our best to look important as we just walked through the dining room (The $75-a-plate dining room). We found my corner, took a couple pictures, and then noticed that "Dragon Dance" had been taken down. As we sexily talked about it, the Manager came in and told us we weren't allowed to be there, so I busted out the "Oh, uh, I um, painted these," and asked where Dragon Dance was. She said that was her favorite and we were "in". As it turns out, D.D. had been taken to the Fox 5 News station for the morning entertainment report, which would air on Tuesday morning. HOW EXCITING, RIGHT???!?! Well, you just have to watch it. On the upside, this television thing was in no way part of the deal, so at least I'm glad it was my painting, but, well. Just watch it. I don't think I've ever felt such a quick one-two punch of dissapointment and humor at one time. All in all, I think it's worth it just so I can say, "Watch this! What a bunch of horse shit."
I uploaded it to you tube, but it's still being processed so it's not actually viewable yet.
This is where it is on the Fox 5 Website: http://www.fox5vegas.com/video/18239780/index.html
Also, I can't remember if I ever posted this before, but apparently it's the only video I ever favorited on YouTube:

It was that or "That's Why I Keep You Around," but then I think Devan could sue me. It's actually really big (12"x...48", or something like that), which means I'll probably see it printed out and decide it needs more work, but hey, fuck the future. It looks great when it's small.
"No, hey, it looks great when it's small."
beautiful.

I posted this as a comment on Josh's myspace, but then realized that there's no reason not to share it all with you friends as well.
if you ever FEEL like it, you should read this:
http://superman.nu/thebook/mm_contents.php
It's an old, out of print Superman novel from, I THINK, the seventies. Mark Waid and Grant Morrison were talking about it at some point, and I found a website that has the whole thing up. They mentioned a grasshopper scene, and how it was the basis for what they wanted Clark to be. Well, I accidentally clicked on the bookmark today and saw that the first chapter was titled "Thanksgiving," and decided I'd read it super-duper quick before driving to the dinner thing in "Frisco." And there it was. Grasshopper scene.
It really is a fantastic scene.

I got a letter today, postmarked on my birthday, saying that I've been accepted to UC Santa Cruz.
Sweet.
I'm still holding out for San Jose State, but at least I know I've got somewhere to go at the end of the year :)

| Warlord Cards |
[17 Nov 2008|01:05pm] |
So, I just finished my first batch for Warlord Cards for Phoenix Interactive. You can check out the collectible card game at http://www.warlordccg.com , and my cards in particular will be part of the 4th Edition "Shattered Empires" set, coming out (if everything goes smoothly) on the 30th of November. It seems like a pretty tight squeeze to me, but we'll see what happens. All four cards have been added to the gallery, so you can check them out there. Each one has "WarlordCCG" in the name, in case you need some help unravelling the mystery of which images belong to the set. I may end up reorganizing this site pretty soon if time permits, since I'm beginning to wish I had more room for background info on the paintings . Beyond that, I'm just working on commissions for a couple weeks before diving into any more tight work schedules, what with all the exams coming up this week. After that, though, it's back to the job hunt. As of February, though, it's back to Warlord cards.
EDIT: Oh, and I just checked to make sure the link works, and the preview card is one of mine(Or a least a grainy facsimile of it)! Fantastic!
